Fernando graduated from Eastern Washington University with a B.A. in Elementary Education / Elem. P.E. He also received his M. A. in School Administration. He spent the first three years teaching a sixth grade classroom. The last 27 years he taught K-5 P.E. in Moses Lake School District. He coached a unicycle team at Peninsula Elementary called P.U.G.S., which you might have seen at various community functions.
He was involved with the Washington Alliance for Health, P.E., Recreation and Dance (WAHPERD) for over 20 years as a board member and Jump Rope for Heart state coordinator raising millions for the American Heart Assoc. fundraiser. He completed his time on the WAHPERD board as the President.
The last 5 years he was involved with OSPI’s office helping develop the EALR’s, GLE’s and CBA’s for the Health / Fitness area.
A couple of years ago Fernando decided to retire from education and help Summer Institutes bring a workshop to Moses Lake. He also assists with the Tri-Cities workshop as well.
Fernando is married to Rena; they have three grown children Kyndall, Justin, and Zachary.
