Jim Walden - Spokane Site Coordinator
Jim Walden is a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi. He attended college at the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree and played football for Coach Bob Devaney.
After playing professional football for four years in the Canadian League, Jim began his coaching and teaching career at Amory, Mississippi. A call from his mentor, Bob Devaney, took him to the University of Nebraska as a member of the coaching staff. While there, he also received his Master’s Degree in Education Administration.
Leaving Nebraska, Jim coached a successful four seasons at the University of Miami, Florida before moving to Washington State where he was head coach of the Washington State University Cougars from 1977 – 1986. Jim directed the Cougars to the Holiday Bowl, their first appearance in fifty years. Twice, he was honored as PAC TEN Coach of the Year!
Jim moved once more to take over the helm of a struggling Iowa State football program in 1987. After eight years of steady improvement, he retired in 1994.
Jim served eight years on the Board of Directors of the American Football Coaches Association. Presently, he serves on the Player Selection Committee of the East-West Shrine All Star Game, and is on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Chapter of the National Football Association and the College Football Hall of Fame.
As an SI Coordinator, Jim is reacquainting with some of the students he taught in Pullman and looks forward to seeing many of you at the workshops in Spokane.
