Sue Speckman
Sue has been an educator for 22 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and her MSW degree with a school counseling credential from California State University, Fresno. She has also taken continuing education classes at Oregon State University and was a certified MANDT trainer when working in the Special Education Department at Student Services with Salem-Keizer School District.
Prior to becoming a school counselor, Sue worked in the human services field for ten years in Michigan and California. While a high school counselor at Merced High School in California, she developed an alternative-education program which received state recognition. She presented this program at the annual state principal's convention in Anaheim,Ca. Her expertise in working with challenging behaviors in a school setting has continued while working in the Salem-Keizer School District. In 2006, Sue was awarded the Crystal Apple Award for her work in developing and implementing an alternative education program at North Salem High School. Sue is currently a school counselor at the Early College High School program at the Chemeketa Campus.
Sue has facilitated the Summer Institutes workshop in Salem for the past four years. It has grown in popularity each year. Last year 97 educators attended from Salem and neighboring communities. Sue is committed to providing a quality workshop. She has always received postive feedback from those who have attended and many return each year.
Sue has lived in Salem for 13 years. During her free time, she enjoys working out and , just recently, started playing the piano again. She hopes to visit her oldest daughter in Paris sometime in 2008.
