PURE Teaching VI (Powerfully Using Relationships Effectively)

This is the 6th installment of  P.U.R.E. Teaching. This year’s seminar will focus on relationships with students and colleagues and how to interact in ways that increase mutual understanding, promote cooperation, and decrease conflict. We will also discuss lessons on motivation, choice making and goal setting. These lessons are currently being taught by Mr. Chapin to educators in seminars across the United States through Bureau of Education & Research, Rachel’s Challenge, and through Mr. Chapin’s business, Positive Powerful Teaching. He is also teaching these lessons to students of all grades at various school districts and the Juvenile Justice Center.

This year’s presentation will include the following:

  • Basic attitude and behavior lessons for elementary school students.
  • Classroom proven strategies for increasing academic performance and establishing mutual respect between you and your students.
  • Highly effective methods for improving students’ attitudes about school, life, and learning.
  • Practical methods to empower students to accept personal responsibility for what happens to them in school and in life.
  • Student friendly ideas that prevent power struggles, apathy, and classroom disruptions.
  • Where to find energy in teaching and how to plug the holes that drain that energy.
  • Goal setting and problem solving for both the teacher and the student.

We will cover these and many other topics as well as receiving a packet containing some of these lessons and other useful information.

CIM Tech Solutions
"Tying Together Curriculum and Technology"

Overview:
Technology today comes in many forms. How do teachers and administrators decide which would be the best tools for their limited dollars? Explore many options and learn what tools provide information for making data driven decisions, engage students and reduce stress and workload for the teacher in cost-effective ways.

Biography:
I was a classroom teacher for 32 years, starting my career in small rural schools and completing the last 2/3rds in Corvallis School District. I was always an early adopter when it came to incorporating technology with my classroom curriculum. When our school received some technology funds, I helped to decide to put student response systems and interactive whiteboard technology in every classroom. And after I retired, I decided to become a trainer to help folks use their technology more efficiently. Though I still love training, I also like being able to help districts and schools provide tools for teachers that will enrich the classroom and provide information for making wise instructional decisions while reducing the teacher’s workload.

"Making Sure Everyone Learns Something New Everyday"

The classroom teacher has the greatest impact on the gifted learner, and yet many excellent teachers have never had a college course or any other background in meeting the needs of these students. Because two characteristics of gifted students are a need for complexity and an advanced sense of humor, the topic of the presentation is to provide participants with enough background, activities, and concrete materials to be thatteacher.
