Rebecca Johns- Teaching Biology outside the box:
Rebecca Johns from Troy High School of from Sterling Heights, Michigan is always finding new ways to make her biology lessons visual and interesting. She teaches heart surgery procedures in her AP Biology class by using hearts of animal cadavers. Each heart has a defect, and the students have to diagnose the problem and perform surgery to repair it. "The motivation is the joy I get from working with my students," she said. "I get excited about the topics, and I want to share them with my students." Aws Hammad, a 17-year-old senior, said Johns has a unique style." She has models up her sleeves for everything," he said. "She really goes in depth and keeps it interesting for us. And her classroom is a comfortable setting." Rebecca is one of the top teachers in the United States. Her accomplishments are outstanding. Rebecca has shown ability to take students to great heights in the sciences. Some of her accomplishments include:
All-USA Teacher Team Award – one of twenty educators chosen from across the United States (sponsored by USA Today and nominated by my principal in 2007)
Yale Teaching Award (nominated by a former student in 2007)
MIT-Lemelson InvenTeam Teacher Award (Traveled to MIT in Boston in June 2007)•MIT Minor Planet “23008 Rebeccajohns” – had a minor planet between Mars and Jupiter named after me by MIT (nominated by two former students who were Intel Science Talent Search Finalists as their “most influential teacher”)

Dr. Dennis Dunlap-  A simulation that helps set LEARNING into motion. LEARNING is the #1 business priority in education. To be effective-to “work”-learning environments requires a clear direction, dedication, patience, time and people. This talk will give direction to issues in education.
Dr. Dunlap, raised as a cornhusker in the panhandle of Nebraska, Dennis has been a Michigander for the past thirty (30) years. In the early seventies he came to Michigan while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Upon arriving in Michigan, he immediately fell in love with the winter wonderland. For the past six (6) years, Dennis has worked as the Regional Career Technical Education (CTE) Administrator. In this position, he provides leadership for the career development system in four (4) counties. One of the biggest challenges in career education has been the displacement of approximately 10,000 workers and assisting these workers with training, achieving full time employment, and creating their personal vision. Prior to this experience, Dennis was the Community School/Special Education Director for twelve (12) years in a public school system. In this position, he provided enrichment and athletic activities for youth and adults in the community and assisted building administrators with the placement of special education students into the appropriate least restrictive educational environments. Also, while working in this position, Dennis founded Odyssey Middle/High School, another choice for students attending a public school and other surrounding school districts.
