Optimal Health in 2010
Executive Director Health Coach Team
Our break out session deals with how food affects our health. Particularly, how blood sugar levels and the insulin response can be either our best friend, or our worst enemy! Learn how Type 2 diabetes is a reversible disease, and how many of today's health issues stem directly from obesity.
It wasn't until I found out that my cholesterol was 259 and the BMI chart said I was "overweight" that I decided I'd better do something about my health! Fast forward several years, and I am a health coach now- helping others lose weight and shed medications. Two thirds of America is overweight or obese and find themselves in the same situation I was in just a few years ago. Ten percent of America is suffering from type 2 diabetes. As a health coach, I place emphasis on relationships with my clients by providing personal attention to their health. My mission is to get America healthy, one person at a time!

Tying Together Curriculum and Technology
Being engaged in the classroom is one of the keys to deep learning. Come spend some time to focus on how and why we use technology to enhance delivery and assessment of curriculum. The session will discuss the paradigm shift teachers and districts are making when choosing technology tools to assist in the delivery of content and will also explore how Mobi's and eInstruction Classroom Response Systems can be used to help with classroom management and delivery of curriculum. See examples of how using these tools can help teachers to actively engage all students in classrooms with ever increasing numbers, check student understanding throughout a lesson, provide on-going real-time feedback during lessons, differentiate instruction based on student understanding, and efficiently assess and record student knowledge. See examples of how teachers can use these tools to make learning visible and take learning to a deeper level using quality questioning strategies during instruction.
Dottie Coven - Dottie has a Masters in Teaching and taught elementary school for 13 years. Dottie has worked as a consultant and technology trainer since 1992 and joined CIM Technology Solutions Group as they expanded into the Western Region in 2007.

Unsolicited testimonials from alumni:
I appreciate the way SI challenges us every year to come up with a project that we have been thinking about, but never put into action. Every project that I have put into words has been a benefit to my teaching and I do have you to thank. I designed a cooking program for my kids one year, made a schedule for teaching "Character First", started a fun and meaningful daily exercise block in the classroom, and last year I made a packet that I will be using to teach the math WASL expectations in the spring. If it wasn't for Summer Institute's challenge to me, I would not have accomplished these goals. Thank you and Happy New Year!

I thoroughly enjoyed my week with SI. I felt there was not a minute wasted. I enjoyed the order of the speakers as well. Not to belittle any of the earlier speakers, but it was like a Fourth Of July fireworks display. SI started with the good fireworks Monday through Wednesday; and finished with Thursday and Friday being the Grand Finale. It was a great week, time and money well spent. I will definitely be back next year.
