KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS That Address Today’s Standards.
Here is an example of last year's schedule:

2008 WORKSHOP PRESENTATIONS BY EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELDS

Christian Moore  - presents “Why Try? Overcoming poverty, violence, and failure” and “Why Try? New Approaches for Hard-to-Reach Youth.”  Mr. Moore is the author of the WhyTry Program, now in approximately 3,000 schools throughout the U.S, Canada, and Australia.  He has years of experience working with at-risk youth, including work as a school social worker at an alternative high school, and as a youth outpatient therapist at a community mental health agency specializing in adolescents with conduct disorder and learning disabilities.

Mr. Moore’s presentation will include activities that help all attendees gain personal insight into the challenges youth face and will explore the seeds of motivation and hope which enable children to overcome poverty, violence, and failure.

Omoide Team, Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington Internment Survivors
Students and teachers alike benefit from the first person stories and presentation of the Omoide team, adults who experienced the Japanese American incarceration during World War II. Stories from the team’s book, Omoide IV: Childhood Memories, along with related information, are the basis of presentations that cover a variety of CBA project themes in civics and history. This session will cover lessons for pre-presentation, the interactive Omoide presentation and post-presentation exercises to make a memorable experience that engages students in civics, history, geography and economics.

Linda SparksThe Grammar Barrier
Are you intimidated by grammar? Are your e-mails and professional documents effective, or are you routinely asked for clarification? Is your grammar creating a barrier between you and your readers? In this workshop, we will explore common grammar errors, and develop strategies to avoid them. We will look at what our business writing reflects about us and learn simple strategies to tame those grammar issues that get in the way of writing clarity. Students will leave with strategies and resources that can be used both in the classroom and in professional writing. Join us as we break the grammar barrier.
